Manthani sarpanch Putta Sailaja has received accolades from the pilgrims and the residents of Manthani for her excellent performance during the Pushkarams. She has been leading Mantrapuri of Manthani division centre, located on the banks of the Godavari, to development in all sectors.
The road from Manthani to Pushkar ghats has been converted to double road with central lighting for the Godavari Pushkarams. Saplings worth Rs 4 lakh were planted. Despite the strike by sanitation staff, 200 workers were deployed to avoid any inconvenience to the pilgrims.
In the two years of her term as sarpanch, Shailaja focused on central lighting, construction of CC roads, market yard building with modern infrastructure besides ensuring sanitation. In an interaction with Mana manthani, Shailaja attributed her success to the encouragement given by her husband and Manthani MLA Putta Madhu and the cooperation of the State government. Through the Putta Lingamma Charitable Trust, Shailaja played a key role in deploying volunteers to help the elderly and the physically challenged people in reaching Pushkar ghats, thereby ensuring no inconvenience was caused to them. The sarpanch spoke about the developmental activities she has taken up so far and about those she planned to take up in future.
At the time she took over as sarpanch, the gram panchayat had a debt of Rs 24 lakh. In the last two years, she has been working out various strategies by taking up developmental activities to generate income of Rs 2 crore for the gram panchayat. Seventy-eight market yards have been built, thus increasing the income sources to the gram panchayat. Earlier, the residents of Manthani did not get tap water even once a day. Today they are receiving tap water twice a day. CC roads are being built in all the colonies.
The authorities are moving ahead with the intention to turn one colony into green belt every month so as to make the place ‘Swachh Manthani’. By banning the use of plastic, they are taking measures to improve sanitation. The vegetable market has modern infrastructure. Meat and fish market is accommodated in the same complex. Underground drainage system and CC roads are also made available in the market complex. Shopping complex for vendors is also set up near the bus stand. The market yard was named Ailamma Market and soon her statue would be inaugurated, said said.
